Overview
Morning
Journey to Doune Castle
We leave Glasgow and begin to follow the trail of the best-known film locations featured in the Outlander TV Series. The journey takes us through the gentle countryside past Stirling Castle and the Wallace Monument before reaching Doune Castle, or as it's called in Outlander, Castle Leoch, the ancestral home of Colum MacKenzie.
Mid Morning
Doune Castle and journey to Falkland
Explore the formidable Doune Castle and uncover its origins as the grand residence of one of the most powerful men in 14th-century Scotland. Then imagine Outlander's Claire navigating complex social dynamics during a clan gathering in the Great Hall, or picture scenes from Monty Python and the Holy Grail, where Doune served as a comical backdrop for multiple castle locations in the film. Fans of Game of Thrones will also recognize it as Winterfell from the series' pilot episode. Travelling north through the lush countryside, we head to Falkland. This charming village will steal your heart with cobblestone streets, quaint stone houses, a palace, and great places for lunch.
Afternoon
Falkland, Midhope Castle and Blackness Castle
Outlander fans relive the show's opening scenes in Falkland, which represents 1940s Inverness. Look for familiar sights like Mrs. Baird's Guesthouse and the Bruce Fountain. Next, we visit Midhope Castle, Jamie's beloved home, Lallybroch. Sit on the weathered steps and imagine Jamie or Claire walking through the courtyard archway. Then, it's on to Blackness Castle, known as the ‘ship that never sailed' for its resemblance to a giant stone boat. Here, you can walk along the ramparts and explore the fictional headquarters of Jack Randall. Finally, we head to our final stop, Culross, one of the most charming villages in Scotland.
Early Evening
Culross and return journey to Glasgow
Fall in love with Culross, a charming 16th-century village that feels like stepping back in time. This picturesque setting was chosen to represent the fictional town of Cranesmuir and serves as the home of Geillis Duncan and her ill-fated husband, Arthur, in Outlander. Wander through the village's cobbled streets and look out for iconic filming locations from the show, such as Claire's herb garden, nestled behind the impressive, historic Culross Palace. After immersing yourself in the landscapes and stories that inspired Outlander, we'll return to Glasgow in the early evening.
You return to Glasgow at approximately 6.30pm.
