Overview

Discover two of the most remarkable châteaux in the Paris region on a full‑day excursion combining the royal splendor of Fontainebleau and the classical elegance of Vaux‑le‑Vicomte. Begin your journey at 9:15 a.m. from central Paris and travel through the countryside to your first stop: the Château de Fontainebleau.

After a 1 hour and 15 minute drive, arrive in the heart of the Fontainebleau forest and step inside the only royal and imperial residence to have been continuously inhabited for seven centuries. Dating back to the 12th century, the château was home to French rulers from Francis I to Napoleon III. With your visioguide, explore its richly furnished rooms, exceptional collections, and iconic features such as Napoleon I’s throne and the famous horseshoe‑shaped staircase. Continue through the spacious private apartments, which reflect the comfort and refinement of the era, then enjoy free time to wander the vast park and its three beautifully designed gardens. You may choose to have lunch on the lawns or at the on‑site restaurant before continuing your day.

In the early afternoon, depart for Vaux‑le‑Vicomte, just 45 minutes away. This magnificent château—whose beauty famously inspired Louis XIV to build Versailles—stands as a masterpiece of 17th‑century classical architecture. Created for Nicolas Fouquet, Louis XIV’s superintendent of finances, the estate brought together three of the greatest talents of the time: landscape designer André Le Nôtre, architect Louis Le Vau, and painter‑decorator Charles Le Brun.

With your audio guide, explore Fouquet’s private apartments, the state rooms, the grand kitchens, and the vaulted cellars. Thanks to immersive 3D sound, your visit plunges you into the heart of the Fouquet affair, with voices of historical figures such as Molière and Louis XIV bringing the story to life. Children can enjoy dressing up for a playful, interactive experience. Don’t miss the ascent to the dome, offering a superb panoramic view of the estate.

Finally, take time to stroll through the château’s magnificent 35‑hectare French gardens, adorned with sculpted shrubs, water features, and vibrant flowerbeds.

Your day concludes with a 5 p.m. departure from Vaux‑le‑Vicomte, returning to central Paris around 6:30 p.m.
