Overview

Starting outside Westminster Abbey, join Ed and Colm on this walk through British monarchy, from Ancient England to the modern United Kingdom. Take in the stunning architecture and fascinating history of this beautiful Abbey, from the anointing of William the Conqueror in 1066 to the 10 Modern Martyrs who line the Great West Door.

Head along to the Treasury and Churchill’s war rooms, home to the efforts and mind that led Britain through the Second World War. Stop at the Cenotaph, a memory to the soldiers who fell during the First World War and the famous location where the country commemorates those who lost their lives on Remembrance Sunday every year.

Visit the famous Horseguard, the Queen’s very own lifeguard! After the rebellion of parliament against Charles I in the 1640s, his son Charles II didn't wholly trust the government’s protection, and he set up these lifeguards. Ever since the lifeguard has been loyal in protecting the crown. Learn about British Civil Wars and the Republic formed by Oliver Cromwell.

Discover the secret tunnels at Britain’s military headquarters under the Horseguards parade. This was once where the Kings and Queens would host jousting tournaments and is today home to Trooping the Colour, an event that marks the sovereign's official birthday.

Stroll down the Mall as you wander alongside St James’ Park, an area that was originally a marshland before Charles I had it drained in the 17th century. Keep an eye out for the park’s famous pelicans!

Finally, finish the tour at Buckingham Palace, home to the British Monarch since 1761. From here you can check out the famous balcony from which monarchs often wave from, the Queen Victoria monument which marks the history of Imperialism in Britain, and the changing of the guard, a traditional ceremony featuring music & military marching.
